The Action of Generosity
[written for our community newsletter, with Studio Satya]
What comes up when you think of the word Generous?
Perhaps it's the meaning of the word itself. To be generous is defined as showing readiness to give more of something, as money or time, than is strictly necessary or expected. It can be seen as kindness to others, and of something that is more plentiful than is usual or necessary.
Maybe what comes to mind is a visual representation or a felt sensation in the body – images of something extra given by someone as an expression of their gratitude and love, or maybe a warmness radiating from your heart. There is generosity springing up from the Earth itself, expressing in the form of beautiful flowers and nourishing medicines and food.
It is found and experienced in a multitude of ways, in a variety of places, and one of them is certainly within the community of our studio. Sharing of not just materials, but ideas, conversation, and care. People who step across the threshold for the first time notice this right away, often commenting on how good the studio feels, and once they practice noting how connected students seems and how welcome they feel.
This is a direct reflection of the generous spirit of each of you, each of us. May we continue finding generosity toward ourselves and each other as we journey alongside one another.
Thank you for being here.
