Transitions of Late Summer

[written for our community newsletter, with Studio Satya]

In the midst of transitions, it is often challenging to know up from down as everything shifts like sand in the wind. Some elements move slowly and steadily, like the gradual shortening of days, and others seem to change overnight, such as sudden changes in traffic patterns or a phone call that shifts reality.

The ebbs and flows of life come in this way as well – some predictable and slow, others out of nowhere. These moments of unpredictability can catch us off guard and create instability, but they also contain an opportunity to choose balanced action. Something that continues to arise is how often that which is difficult is often intertwined with that which is sweet. This requires confronting the challenge and then choosing how we move through it: with force or with softness.

Principles of yoga also come to mind, with the idea of the effort and ease we seek to find in each pose throughout our practice. This might look like Warrior 2 with strong leg but ease through the extended arms, or the effort required to focus on sensation and breath in a long-held Child's Pose. We show up on our mat to practice so that when we're squeezed by the world, we know how to use some effort to connect to our calm place within.

As we transition from Summer to Autumn, we have a number of offerings to support your journey. Thank you for joining us, and please let us know if there is any way we can support you better in these times we share.
